Parachute

A project for my Laptop Orchestra class in Spring 2019. The Parachute was an instrument and ritualistic performance meant to bring back the joyful memories of childhood play and sonify them in a cloud of computer generated noises. Motion and orientation sensors were attached to a parachute to track its motion which was used to control a generative Pure Data patch while the 18 performers of the piece were guided in their motions by the gestures of three directors. One member of my class thought the sound design was too harsh and atonal and if you look carefully you can see him on the right side of the frame, using one hand to move the parachute and the other to cover his precious right ear.
